Washington Co., VA – Bus-Tractor-Trailer Wreck on I-81 S, Injuries Reported

Washington County, VA (August 12, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash involving a bus and a tractor-trailer caused injuries on August 12 on Interstate 81 South in Washington County. The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the collision occurred near mile marker 20.1, close to Abingdon. Footage from a VDOT traffic camera showed several vehicles pulled to the shoulder, with multiple emergency units responding. Authorities confirmed that both passengers from the bus and occupants of other vehicles sustained injuries. The Virginia State Police are leading the investigation and will be working to determine the events leading up to the collision.
