Jefferson Co., TN – 8 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-81 Involving Children

Jefferson County, TN (July 22, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Jefferson County left eight people injured, four of them children, on Tuesday, July 22. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near mile marker 1 when the driver of a minivan attempted to use a crossover to enter the northbound lanes. The maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming pickup truck.

At the time of the crash, the minivan was carrying five children. Two of them, along with the 33-year-old female driver, were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. The remaining occupants, three adults and two children in the pickup truck, were also taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities have not released the severity of their injuries, but confirmed all victims are receiving proper medical care. The minivan driver has been charged with failure to exercise due care and violating a traffic control device.
