Wilkes-Barre, PA – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-81 at Exit 178 Leaves Injuries
Wilkes-Barre, PA (September 15, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 northbound left several people injured on Monday, September 15. The accident occurred less than a mile south of Exit 178 near the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers reported that multiple vehicles collided during the morning commute, causing heavy congestion in the area.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and assisted injured victims at the scene. Some individuals were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional treatment, though the severity of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The northbound lanes of I-81 were partially closed while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the roadway. Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles, and normal traffic resumed later in the day. Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
