Washington Co., VA – Pedestrian Fatally Struck on I-81 near TN-VA Border

Washington County, VA (August 8, 2025) – A fatal crash on the morning of August 8 claimed the life of a pedestrian on Interstate 81 near the Tennessee-Virginia state line. The Virginia State Police reported receiving the call around 6:00 a.m., with the incident occurring in the southbound lanes just before the border. Initial reports indicate the victim was struck by at least one vehicle under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Despite the swift arrival of the Virginia State Police and assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the individual’s identity pending notification of family members. Officials are urging any witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
