Sullivan Co., TN – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-81 Leaves Driver Injured

Sullivan County, TN (December 16, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 southbound left one person injured on December 16, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The collision occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. near mile marker 74 on I-81.

Authorities reported that a 2026 Honda HR-V was traveling southbound when it struck a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder of the roadway. Following the impact, the Honda rolled over and slid on its roof before coming to rest across the two right lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Honda sustained injuries in the crash and was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene. Due to the nature of the rollover and reported trauma, the victim was transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. No other injuries were immediately reported.

Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to secure the scene, manage traffic disruptions, and begin documenting the crash. An investigation remains ongoing to determine the full circumstances that led to the collision.
