Shenandoah Co., VA – One Killed, Two Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-81 N

Shenandoah County, VA (November 5, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Tuesday, November 5, along northbound Interstate 81 near mile marker 279, according to the Virginia State Police (VSP). The crash happened around 6:02 p.m. when a Ford SUV traveling in the left lane struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that had stopped in traffic due to a vehicle fire several miles ahead near mile marker 283. The impact caused the Ford to spin across the right lane before coming to rest between the highway and a nearby on-ramp.

Authorities said the Ford’s driver was ejected during the crash and airlifted to a nearby medical center, where they later succumbed to their injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the Ford sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Their current conditions remain undisclosed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

State Police closed portions of I-81 for several hours as investigators reconstructed the scene and cleared the wreckage.
