Rockingham Co., VA – Two Separate Crashes on I-81 Leave Multiple Injured
Rockingham County, VA (October 30, 2025) – Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to two separate crashes that occurred just hours apart on I-81 early Thursday, October 30, leaving multiple people injured. The first crash was reported around 12:15 a.m. near the 238-mile marker on northbound I-81. Authorities say a tractor-trailer jack-knifed after the driver lost control, leading to a collision with another tractor-trailer traveling behind it. Both vehicles came to rest in the median, sustaining heavy damage.
The driver of the second truck was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the first driver was cited for reckless driving. As responders worked to clear the first crash, a second incident took place on the southbound side of the interstate. A Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company fire truck, traveling with its lights activated to assist at the earlier scene, was struck from behind by a 2018 Ford sedan. The sedan’s driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while a passenger in the car also sustained injuries and received medical care.
VSP continues to investigate both incidents to determine the exact sequence of events and contributing factors.
