Waynesboro, VA – Hit-and-Run Tragedy Claims Life on I-81 near MM 210
Waynesboro, VA (January 23, 2024) – Virginia State Police have identified the hit-and-run suspect in the fatal I-81 crash that occurred on Sunday, January 21st, in Augusta County. Austin W. Eavey, a 25-year-old resident of Waynesboro, now faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run. The victim, a middle-aged white male, tragically lost his life while walking along the southbound lanes near mile-marker 210, close to Greenville, at around 4 am on Sunday. Unfortunately, the victim had no identification on him at the time of the incident. Described as a white male with a tattoo on his right leg, he was dressed in black with a hoodie featuring the word “Missouri.” Additionally, he wore white Nike sneakers and carried a backpack. Currently, the victim’s identity remains unknown, and his body is at the state medical examiner’s office for identification and autopsy purposes.
