Verona, VA – Two Injured After Fiery Crash on I-81 at MM 228
Verona, VA (June 7, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle resulted in injuries and a fiery scene on Interstate 81 northbound near the 228-mile marker on June 7. The Virginia State Police responded to the crash after receiving a call around 4:35 p.m. Two individuals sustained injuries in the accident, according to Virginia State Police. Emergency medical crews responded rapidly, with at least one of the victims being airlifted by PHI Air Medical Shenandoah Valley to a regional trauma center.
The conditions of the injured individuals have not been disclosed at this time. Multiple emergency units were on the scene, including the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Augusta County Fire-Rescue, Bridgewater Rescue Squad, and volunteer fire departments from Verona, Weyers Cave, and Grottoes. The Virginia Department of Transportation also responded to assist with traffic management and debris clearance. Virginia State Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
