Syracuse, NY – Pedestrian Fatally Struck on I-81 Within The City Limits by Hit-and-Run Driver

Syracuse, NY (August 28, 2023) – Tragedy struck on Thursday night, August 25th, as a pedestrian lost their life after being hit by a vehicle on the northbound lanes of I-81.

The incident took place within the city limits, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement and emergency services.

At around 10:24 p.m., authorities were alerted to the accident, prompting the closure of the affected stretch of Interstate 81 from the I-481 interchange to the I-690 interchange.

First responders, including police officers and paramedics, rushed to the scene to provide aid and assess the situation. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
