Shenandoah Co., VA – Two-Vehicle Crash on I-81 Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
Shenandoah County, VA (June 12, 2025) – According to the Virginia State Police, the accident occurred around 2:57 a.m. near mile marker 284 on I-81. A Ford F-150 traveling southbound attempted to pass a Toyota RAV4 by using the right shoulder of the highway.
During the maneuver, the truck lost control and collided with the SUV, overturning shortly afterward. The driver of the Ford, 43-year-old Jose O. Torres of Broadway, Virginia, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene from his injuries, authorities confirmed. The Toyota RAV4 was driven by a woman from San Diego, California. She and one of her adult passengers were taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital with injuries reported to be minor. Two other adult passengers in the SUV were uninjured. All occupants of the RAV4 were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the exact sequence of events.
