Scranton, PA – Carbondale Man in Critical Condition after Wrong-Way I-81 Collision Near MM 182.6

Scranton, PA (September 15, 2023) – A harrowing incident occurred on September 14th. The accident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near mile marker 182.6.

The incident occurred when William Usher, a 32-year-old Carbondale resident, driving a Toyota Highlander, entered the southbound lanes traveling northward. This resulted in a devastating head-on collision with a tractor-trailer driven by Muhammad Masood. Subsequently, Usher’s vehicle veered into the left lane, striking a Jeep Wrangler driven by James Moylan.

Usher sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC), where he remained in critical condition as of Thursday, according to Joanne Quaglia, a hospital spokesperson.

Fortunately, Masood and Moylan, aged 65 and a resident of Jefferson Twp., respectively, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
