Rockingham County, VA – Virginia State Trooper Seriously Injured in Crash on I-81 near MM 262

Rockingham County, VA (July 5, 2023) – On July 4th, a Virginia State Police trooper sustained serious injuries in a crash that occurred along Interstate 81 in Rockingham County.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening at around 7:35 p.m. near the 262-mile marker. The trooper had positioned their vehicle in a crossover area to monitor traffic when a southbound 2011 Honda Pilot lost control and collided with the trooper’s vehicle.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles overturned, with the trooper’s vehicle coming to rest in the median. The injured trooper was transported to the University of Virginia Health System for medical attention. Their injuries were deemed serious.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 77-year-old Alice Feret from Blacksburg, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Alice Feret has been charged with reckless driving. The investigation into the crash is currently ongoing.
