Roanoke Co., VA – Six-Vehicle Crash on I-81 S/MM 132 Leaves Injuries
Roanoke County, VA (October 14, 2025) – A serious crash involving five passenger vehicles and one tractor-trailer shut down part of Interstate 81 southbound in Roanoke County on Tuesday morning, October 14. Virginia State Police reported the collision occurred around 11:05 a.m. near mile marker 132. The impact forced all southbound lanes to close for more than two hours while emergency crews worked to manage the scene.
Authorities confirmed that several people sustained injuries, though the extent of those injuries has not yet been released. Some victims were treated at the site, while others were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention. Transportation officials established a detour at Exit 137 as traffic backed up nearly nine miles from the crash site. Crews worked quickly to clear the damaged vehicles and debris, with the roadway reopening at about 1:24 p.m.
The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation to determine how the tractor-trailer and passenger vehicles became involved in the chain-reaction crash.
