Martinsburg, WV – Mississippi Woman Killed in Fatal I-81 Crash Near MM 9

Martinsburg, WV (April 24, 2025) – A tragic crash on I-81 northbound claimed the life of a woman from Mississippi on the evening of Wednesday, April 23, near the 9-mile marker in Berkeley County. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department reported that the accident occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. when a 2024 Nissan Armada SUV collided with a commercial tractor-trailer under unclear circumstances. Deputies arrived at the scene to find the SUV severely damaged, with the driver, an adult female, pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The tractor-trailer driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. At this time, no additional injuries have been reported. Authorities temporarily shut down northbound lanes on I-81 to allow crash reconstruction teams to document the scene and begin a formal investigation. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the West Virginia State Police.
