Kingsport, TN – Multiple Injuries as Tractor-Trailer Collides with Four Vehicles on I-81 Near Exit 66
Kingsport, TN (August 24, 2023) – A collision involving a tractor-trailer and four other vehicles on Interstate 81 North in Sullivan County led to injuries for three individuals. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in close proximity to Exit 66, causing a temporary closure of the interstate.
As per the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred amidst slowed traffic due to the removal of an unrelated tractor-trailer. The Freightliner tractor-trailer failed to decelerate in time for the reduced speed and collided with an International truck, a Ford Explorer, a Toyota Highlander, and a Dodge Caravan.
Subsequently, the Dodge Caravan was pushed into the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado. The crash involved a total of six vehicles.
Injuries were sustained by two passengers in the Dodge Caravan, a two-year-old and a one-year-old, as well as the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado. The extent of their injuries remains uncertain.
The driver of the Freightliner is currently facing pending charges in connection to the accident.
