Hamblen Co, TN – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-81 Leaves One Injured

Hamblen County, TN (December 29, 2024) – A seven-vehicle collision on I-81 Northbound near mile marker 16 on Saturday evening, December 28, resulted in one injury. According to a preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a Kia Soul collided with a tractor-trailer in the left lane. The impact caused sudden braking, triggering a chain reaction involving five additional vehicles, including another tractor-trailer. The driver of the Kia Soul sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, no other occupants of the six additional vehicles involved reported injuries. The crash caused extensive damage to several vehicles and scattered debris across the roadway, requiring hours of cleanup by emergency crews.  The exact cause of the initial collision between the Kia and the tractor-trailer remains under investigation by the THP.
