Greene County, TN – Hit-and-Run Crash Causes Closure on I-81 South, Injuries Reported

Greene County, TN (July 28, 2023) – A hit-and-run crash occurred on Interstate 81 South, near the exit to West Andrew Johnson Highway, resulting in injuries and a temporary closure of the highway.

The accident happened on July 28, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) quickly responded to the scene. The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported the closure around 1 p.m. In response to the injuries sustained in the hit-and-run accident, an air ambulance was called to transport the injured individuals to medical facilities.

According to the initial investigation, the crash occurred when Davis was driving behind the second car involved, resulting in a rear-end collision. Both cars came to a stop on the right shoulder of I-81 South. While the driver and passenger of the second car exited their vehicle, Davis attempted to flee the scene.

In a disturbing turn of events, Davis opened the driver’s side door of the second car and pushed the other driver to the ground in an attempt to escape. Ignoring the potential harm he caused, Davis hit the car again while trying to drive away.

Law enforcement later located his vehicle at a gas station in Jefferson County, where he was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of vehicular assault, DUI, and leaving the scene of the accident.
