Greene Co, TN – Wrong-Way Driver Causes Serious Crash on I-81/MM 36

Greene County, TN (January 9, 2025) – A wrong-way driving incident on I-81 in Greene County resulted in a serious crash and injuries on the evening of January 9. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported that a Chevrolet traveling northbound in the southbound lanes struck a Dodge around 7:50 p.m. Despite efforts by troopers to intercept the wrong-way vehicle, the collision occurred near mile marker 36. The impact forced the Dodge into the median, while the Chevrolet overturned and came to rest in the travel lanes, trapping its driver. Emergency responders worked to extricate the Chevrolet driver, who was then airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Dodge sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on-site before being released. Authorities are investigating the incident, and charges against the Chevrolet driver are pending.
