Greene Co., TN – Semi-Truck Crash on I-81 at MM 43 Injures Two
Greene County, TN (January 20, 2025) – A semi-truck and a Volkswagen Jetta collided on the northbound lanes of I-81 near mile marker 43, resulting in injuries to two individuals on Monday morning, January 20. The accident occurred around 10:00 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local emergency crews. According to reports, 38-year-old Daniel Shelton of North Carolina was driving a semi-truck when he attempted to change lanes and collided with a Volkswagen Jetta driven by 21-year-old Cayden Normandeau of Virginia. The semi struck the Jetta, causing it to spin off the roadway, hit a ditch, and overturn. Normandeau and a passenger, 18-year-old McKenzie Kelly of Virginia, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Shelton was not injured in the collision but was cited for multiple violations, including an electronic log infraction, “No Status of Duty,” and failure to maintain lane. The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
