Franklin County, PA – Two Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-81 Result in Injuries, Medical Helicopter Dispatched

Franklin County, PA (August 1, 2023) – A series of two multi-vehicle crashes brought traffic to a standstill on Interstate 81 in Southcentral Pennsylvania on the evening of July 31st.

The first crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes between exits 20: PA 997 – Scotland and 24: PA 696 – Fayette Street, as reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

According to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler, the first accident involved a collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.

Following closely, the second crash took place just after 4:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-81 between the same exits, also confirmed by PennDOT.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene of both, and a medical helicopter was dispatched to the site of the southbound crash.

Traffic cameras captured numerous emergency vehicles attending to both accident scenes, but further details regarding the injuries and victims have not been disclosed at this time.
