Dunmore, PA – Woman Struck and Killed by Motorcycle on I-81 at MM 189.7

Dunmore, PA (October 20, 2023) – In a tragic incident on October 19th, a woman lost her life after being struck by a motorcycle along Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County.

The victim, identified as Darlene Denike, a 48-year-old resident of Scranton, was fatally injured when a motorcycle collided with her along the northbound lanes of I-81 at mile marker 189.7 in Scranton.

Reports indicate that Ms Denike was attempting to load a tire into her SUV when the motorcycle, traveling north, veered onto the shoulder to avoid stopped traffic and collided with her.

The impact of the collision resulted in Ms. Denike sustaining multiple traumatic injuries, ultimately leading to her untimely demise.

Following this tragic accident, the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed for several hours in the vicinity of the incident. These lanes were later reopened to traffic around 9:30 a.m., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Local law enforcement is actively investigating this incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
