Dauphin County, PA – Fatal Bus Crash Claims 3 Lives and Injures Dozens on I-81 in Lower Paxton Township
Dauphin County, PA (August 6, 2023) – A tragic accident on Sunday night resulted in the loss of three lives and left numerous individuals with varying degrees of injuries following a collision involving a tour bus and another vehicle on I-81. The incident occurred in Lower Paxton Township within Dauphin County, near the city of Harrisburg.
The collision, which involved a 2005 tour bus carrying approximately 50 passengers and a 2016 Honda CRV, took place shortly before 11:50 p.m. ET. Pennsylvania State Police released a statement detailing the incident.
According to initial reports, the tour bus was traveling southbound on I-81 when it encountered the stationary Honda CRV in the right lane. The bus veered off the road, striking an embankment and overturning in the process. The impact caused the right rear section of the bus to collide with the CRV.
Tragically, three individuals lost their lives at the scene, as confirmed by authorities. The remaining passengers on the bus suffered a range of injuries, varying from minor to severe. Emergency responders swiftly attended to the injured individuals, transporting them to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The occupants of the Honda CRV also sustained injuries, categorized as moderate. However, specific details regarding the number of occupants in the CRV and the reason for its stationary position on the interstate have not been disclosed.
Reports from the scene indicate that the tour bus was lying on its side near the interstate berm, adjacent to a cluster of foliage and tall trees.
