Cortlandville, NY – Two-Car Collision on I-81/MM 49 Leaves One Hospitalized
Cortlandville, NY (December 31, 2024) – A two-vehicle accident on I-81 near mile marker 49 left one man hospitalized on Monday morning, December 30. According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred when a Toyota Camry traveling south in the right lane rear-ended a Honda CRV for unknown reasons. After the collision, the Camry veered into the center median. Emergency responders arrived promptly and had to break the Camry’s window to rescue Kenneth G. Thompson, 54, of McDonough, who was found unconscious. Thompson was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse for further treatment. Meanwhile, Darrell W. Batchelor, 43, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Eddy H. Larson, 60, of Grover, Wyo., occupants of the Honda CRV, were evaluated by EMS but did not require hospitalization. The crash remains under investigation.
